For anyone not understanding of the way your eyes work.....
the reason you will still see some color/colour without looking at the dot is because looking anywhere else will in fact have the same affect as looking at the dot. the only 2 purposes for a dot is so that you have something to focus your attention on while you wait to transition to the black and white version of the pic and so that the color you see is centralized throughout the pic. if you stare at a place other than the dot you will see color/colour but you most likely not see it all around the picture though this will depend on how good your sight of color/colour is.
